BJELL

The Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law has long been a leading publication in the field, well respected by professionals and academics. But when it came time to develop a logo, BJELL wanted to expand that audience to include students, and other young, passionate members of their community. They wanted a mark people could get excited about, that conveyed their values as champions for working people boldly.

We based this logo on the Greek god Themis, the classic symbol of law who holds the scales of justice. But instead of the classic rendering of Themis, delicately adorned in robes, we drew her as a strong, workshirted laborer, putting the power of the law into the hands of the people.
